Have you ever noticed that how you start your mornings can often set the tone for the rest of the day? Sometimes life gets in the way and unexpected situations arise that demand our attention. Other times, we may simply need a plan that we can follow for each morning that will help us give our best to the day so we can receive the most out of it. But, where do we start?

Today, we’re sharing several options of how to start your day off right. It takes 21 days to form a new habit and 21 days to build a lifestyle. So, if you’re up for a challenge, read below and choose the options that work best for you. Follow this new system for a few weeks and see how it impacts your life!

Start Your Day Off Right With These Tips:

1. Start The Night Before

It is important to get enough deep sleep, and also set up your day. There are some basic things you should do every night that will help you achieve this. Stop watching TV in bed and hold your bedroom as a sacred sleep space. Keep a notebook by your bed to slow your mind down and write down things that are bothering you. Go to sleep when you are tired. Lastly, create a solid timeframe for phone and other tech usage for the day. Do not let that time extend into the hours that you should be using for rest. Using electronic devices for long periods during the day can negatively impact sleep.

2. Wake Up Early

Early risers can receive many benefits. Here are just a few:

  • Being able to go through your morning routine in a calm and leisurely manner instead of being rushed.
  • Having time for introspection and getting yourself in the right frame of mind for the day.
  • The quiet morning hours are a great time to get things done.
  • You can often get an early start on your goals, such as getting daily exercise or simply planning your day.

3. Prepare Your Mind & Body For The Day

Get moving! Stretch or work out out for at least 15 minutes.
Yoga and/or meditation during the early morning is also a great energizer for the day! Some people meditate for enlightenment, but just as with other forms of exercise, it’s a good way to stretch your body and focus your mind too. That skill resurfaces when you’re reading, conversing or doing something that requires concentration.

4. Smile

The easiest thing you can do to make the most of every day is to wake up smiling. When you put a smile on your face first thing in the morning, you program your brain to think positively and you will attract that positivity throughout your day. Don’t sweat it if you forget; it takes time to build a habit. Smiling at strangers is another lovely way to make the most of your day.

5. Get Physical

Move your body, especially when you’re feeling tired. Exercise releases endorphins, which makes you happy. Happiness helps make the most of your day. You don’t have to get vigorous; try a brisk walk or meditative yoga if you’re not into heavy sweating.

6. Hydrate

Your brain is mostly water, so replenish the fluids you lost while sleeping.

7. Eat A Great Breakfast

Follow healthy diet practices by eating three daily meals and a few snacks. Remember that everything is okay in moderation, except vegetables. You can eat veggies in abundance. Don’t starve yourself, and don’t be so rigid you never enjoy a meal.

8. Take Breaks

We can’t spend every day in a leisurely state of bliss. We work. We work hard. But that doesn’t mean we can’t take a break. Whether you feel drained or energized, take a moment to unplug and breathe. Step out into nature or take a power nap. Whatever resets your soul.

9. Get Up An Hour Early

This is going to take discipline, but it is the habit that will help all the other habits. The reason is: time. It gives you the time to do what you need to set up your day. Sacrifice the late night TV for an amazing day. It will be the best investment of your time.

10. Listen To Something Positive

You have to fill your mind with positive ideas. We often don’t understand how bad the negative stories on the radio or television are when they are coming into our minds. But, much of what we take in can truly be toxic. If you keep getting the same information, and keep thinking the same way, try making a change in what you are allowing yourself to take in. Get some positive information every morning and watch how fast you start to reach higher levels of performance, and how much happier you will be in the process.

The Bottom Line

Setting your morning routine is an important way to kickstart your self-improvement and get you to think more intentionally about your days and your life. If you take these steps and begin to set a daily routine, you may be a little tired at first, but you will ultimately see yourself improve and become happier over time. What happens if life gets in the way of you completing your new system? Don’t worry. Just keep going. Our goal everyday should simply be to do a little better than yesterday. So, just take the first step to get started and see where your new daily journey will take you!
